Theme: PROMOTION
According to the Wikipedia, Promotion is “the advancement of an employee’s rank or position in an organizational hierarchy system”. Every person, in his vocation or profession, has a desire to be elevated to a higher position. Promotion gives joy, not only because of its prospect of material benefits, but also for the fact that it serves as an encouragement of one’s merits and ability. But owing to the high incidence of deviations and perversions in almost every sphere of human activities in our time, many people do receive promotions that they do not deserve, while those who are genuinely qualified are ignored. However, true promotion, according to the Scriptures, comes from God.
Text: “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” – Psalms 75:6,7.
Comment: The promotion or honour that comes from God is full of grace and is lasting. Scripture says: “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he added no sorrow with it”, so declared King Solomon (Proverbs 10:22). For one to be worthy of such promotion, such a one must be diligent, honest and God-fearing in whatever he does, and avoid anything that does not answer to righteousness. – Proverbs 22:29.
It is better to seek promotion that comes from God by honestly and diligently doing our duties and waiting for Him and His time. It does not mean that God will send an angel from heaven to elevate one but He does use men as instruments to promote His true worshippers wherever they are and in His own time. The woman Hannah in her thanksgiving said: “The LORD maketh poor, maketh rich: He bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory.” (1 Samuel 2:7,8). Our advancement in our endeavours must be attributed to God Almighty because: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…” – James 1:17.
