Theme: DEMANDS OF TRUE DISCIPLESHIP

Text: “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” – Luke 6:46.

Comment: The text for today was a statement of Jesus Christ to those who are Christians by mere oral profession of the faith than by their deeds.  In the Christian world today, many are quick to tell the world that they are Christians, prompt in mentioning the name “Jesus” and relentless in telling everyone how they love Jesus so dearly, but  such ones are hopelessly wanting in carrying out instructions in the teachings of Jesus Christ in line with the will of God.  Jesus Christ himself stated: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 7:21.

Again, Jesus used an illustration of a man who built his house on sand to indicate the spiritual consequence of not putting to practice his teachings as well as the spiritual benefit of being practical Christians. (Matthew 7:24-27) In a nutshell, one major evidence of our love for Jesus Christ is the keeping of his instructions / teachings.  Jesus Christ said: If ye love me, keep my commandments.  He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me” – John 14:15,21,24.
