Theme: THE PURPOSE OF MAN ON EARTH

Text: “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is LORD of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things”. – Acts 17:24, 25.

Comment: The people of Athens in Greece were more of Philosophers. St. Paul disputed the Scriptures with the Jews in their Synagogue and with devout personalities, and in their market places. (Acts 17:17) The Epicureans and Stoics who appeared to be separate religious sects at that era encountered St. Paul in the city of Athens. The Athenians were wholly given to idol worship so much that they worshipped “An Unknown God.” Paul educated them that God Almighty, though invisible, could be known – to a degree by His works of Creation. (Romans 1:20) Concerning the purpose of man on earth, which is our duty, St. Paul further asserts: “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation: That they should seek the LORD, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.” – Acts 17:26, 27.
