Theme: BE YE WISE AS SERPENTS AND HARMLESS AS DOVES

Text: “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us:  for we are not ignorant of his devices.” – 2 Corinthians 2:11.

Comment: Satan the devil, the arch enemy of God and man is a subtle adversary. He uses many stratagems to get at his prey (the children of God). He takes advantage of all the weaknesses and/or shortcomings of Christians to get into their lives and cause their downfall.  He has vowed that nobody would live to serve God and be saved. For the spiritually careless worshippers, the Devil could cause confusion, despair, hardness of heart, apostasy and destruction at the end. The Bible warns: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” – 1 Peter 5:8,9.

Every sincere and devoted worshipper of God should therefore be prayerful. Scripture says: “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day:  we are not of the night, nor of darkness.  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8; 1 Peter 4:7; See also Luke 21:34-36.
