Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD

Text: “…Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.”  – Luke 12:1-2.

Comment: Jesus Christ made this declaration because he hated hypocrisy or insincerity which some people exhibit to get favour with men. Such attitude of hypocrisy is sheer foolishness because God Almighty sees everything.  One can fool his fellow man but not God. This attitude pained Jesus Christ in that while the Jewish leaders had everything to lose by their insincerity they had everything to gain by doing what they claim. “But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee. When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son. These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes…” (Psalm 50:16-22) Those who keep the word of God become models of positive values and are great assets to society. Jesus Christ stated: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16.
