Theme: THANKSGIVING

Text: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy…” – 2 Timothy 3:1, 2.

Comment: The Bible shows that lack of appreciation will be one of the characteristics of people in the last days in which we are now living.  In his letter to Timothy St. Paul stated that selfishness, greed and pride work at cross purposes with Christian principles and those in such a state will not have the fear of God and so will not show appreciation to God or man. Ungrateful people believe they are entitled to the services of all men, and so feel no obligation, and consequently no gratitude for good done to them. This is unchristian. It is the person who is thankful that will get more benefits because gratitude is a great motivator.

It is noteworthy that some governments in the world have recognized the importance of showing thanks to God and have set aside days in the year for their people to do so. In the United States of America and Canada, they hold a National Thanksgiving holiday for the people to thank God Almighty for His mercies and to pray for His guidance and protection.

We should be appreciative of the goodness of God and good things done for us by our fellow men.  This entails humility and love for God, satisfaction or contentment with one’s lot in life.  King David asserted, “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” –  Psalm 50:14, 15.
