Theme: THE DANGER OF TALE BEARING AND RASH JUDGMENT

Text: “He who conceals hatred had lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool. When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.” – Proverbs 10:18, 19 (Revised Standard Version).

Comment: Slanderers and talebearers are quick to circulate stories they know little or nothing about. Most slanderers and talebearers are envious of their victims. They feel sad that they are not as blessed as the other person, in wealth, beauty, knowledge, love and so on. The Bible says that promotion commeth neither from the east, west or south. But it is the Almighty God who giveth blessings and promotions. (Psalm 75:6, 7) As children of God, we should not envy anyone or backbite them, or slander them, rather, we should focus on ourselves, on how to do God’s will so as to attract His blessings. We should work hard to earn whatever we need in life as God (the Giver of all good and perfect gifts) does not discriminate neither will He withhold any good gifts from them that do His will. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ commanded us against rash judgement (Matthew 7:1, 2), then he recommends that we ask God for whatsoever we need in prayers, for He will hear us, (Matthew 7:7, 8) after we had done His will by avoiding rash judgement, talebearing, backbiting and slandering by God’s grace.
