Text: “Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” – Psalm 119:33, 34.
Comment: Understanding, which is the practical application of the word of God, is the anchor that keeps us in the way of Truth. Thus, the life application of God’s word is essential in our race for salvation. (Matthew 7:21; Romans 2:13) Lamenting over the hypocritical attitude of some of the Jews during the days of Ezekiel, God Almighty declared: “And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.” (Ezekiel 33:31, 32) This poor attitude is a far cry from what King David intended when he designated God’s word a lamp to his feet. We pray God to allow the benefit of the enlightenment from His word, reflect in us in practical terms.
