Theme: God Does Not Forsake His People

Text: “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” – 1 Peter 3:7.

Comment: The text under consideration brings to the fore, one of the peculiarities of the marriage union as ordained by God Almighty which is, that couples see themselves as partners working in tandem to obtain salvation, and not rivals, competing to undo each other.

Most often, the considerations among many people to determine a person’s eligibility to go into marriage are age, educational status, financial power, and other mundane concerns, while less attention is paid on spiritual maturity, by way of faith, fear of God, knowledge, etc. So applicable is God’s knowledge in every sphere of human endeavour that the holy writ designates it the “principal thing”. – Proverbs 4:7; 7:1-4.

As family head, one should be able to direct his household to true worship, (Genesis 18:17-19, Joshua 24:14-17); bring up children in the fear of God, (Malachi 2:15; Ephesians 6:4); deal with one’s spouse in sincerity, (Malachi 2:14,16); and in love. (Ephesians 5:25-29) In return, Christian wives as spiritual Jewesses, learn through Bible principles, the virtues of submission, (Ephesians 5:22; 1 Peter 3:1,2,6); modesty, (1 Peter 3:3,4; Philippians 4:5); etc.

On the whole, the rate of divorces and cases of marital instabilities or broken homes will be greatly reduced when Christian couples adopt Scriptural principles in managing their affairs, by the grace of God. – Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Peter 3:1-7; Proverbs 19:4; 31:30.
