Theme: THE SECRET OF TRUE PROSPERITY

Text: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” – 2 Corinthians 9:7, 8.

Comment: Liberality in the service of God is highly encouraged; one should not be tight fisted. All what one has is from God, and we are strangers and sojourners on earth. Therefore as much as lieth in us, let us do good to all men. The Psalmist prayed thus: “Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts”. (Psalm 125:4) Apostle Paul enjoined his spiritual son Timothy to “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.” (1Timothy 6: 17,18) He said that by so doing they lay “in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”  Recounting God’s goodness as he prepared materials for his son Solomon to build a great palace for  the Lord God, King David said that in addition to what he had provided, the congregation of God’s people offered willingly by contributing gold, silver, brass, precious stones and wood. He then proclaimed: “Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.” – 1 Chronicles 29:12.
