Theme: THE VOICE OF CONSCIENCE

Text: “Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” – 1 Peter 3:16.

Comment: Apostle Peter in 1st Peter Chapter three emphasized the need to always do good in the service of God, the importance of knowledge which will help the believer to defend the faith in truth and with a clear conscience when challenged by non-believers as well as the fact that worshippers of God may face persecution. However, he exhorts that one should be careful to ensure that such sufferings are not because of one’s evil but for doing righteousness. (verse 17) To be able to keep one’s conscience clear, requires frequent self-examination. This is akin to regular medical check-ups that help detect developing medical conditions so that early intervention can be administered. Similarly, self-examination is a kind of spiritual check-up that helps the worshipper guard against derailing from the path of truth and righteousness. – 1 Corinthians 11:31; 2 Corinthians 13:5, 6.
