Theme: AVOIDING BESETTING SINS

Text: “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.”  – Colossians 3:5, 6.

Comment: This passage emphasizes the importance of living a life that is in line with God’s will and avoiding sinful behaviours. It encourages believers to rid themselves of worldly desires and focus on spiritual growth. The mention of God’s wrath serves as a reminder of the consequences of living in disobedience to His commands as noted in 1 Corinthians 10:5-11: “But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted, Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them…” See also Ephesians 5:3-5.
