Theme: AVOIDING BESETTING SINS

Text: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” – Isaiah 1:18.

Comment: God Almighty, because of his love for mankind, invites everyone to reason with Him, promising that though our sins were like scarlet they can be made white as snow through His forgiveness. He has no pleasure in the death of the wicked: “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? Saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live” (Ezekiel 18:23, 30-32) To this end, God, through the Prophet Isaiah added: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it”. (Isaiah 1:19, 20) The text, under consideration, therefore, emphasizes the importance of repentance and obedience with the promise of blessings for those who are willing to turn away from their sinful ways and follow God’s command.
