Theme: Some Noble Christians of the Bible

Introduction

The holy Bible clearly states that: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4) The disciples of Christ “were called Christian first in Antioch.” (Acts 11:26) Some of these disciples, both men and women did the work of God very zealously so much that their works are spoken of till date. Their faith and hope concerning the promises of God gives hope and encouragement for us in this age of the end of the world. They were noble Christians and their character should edify and build us up in seeking the interest of the Kingdom of God. (Matthew 6:33) In the following week we shall be discussing some of these noble Christian men and women by God’s grace.

Text: “And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.” – Acts 6:8.

Comment: Stephen was one of the seven deacons chosen by the disciples to take charge of the daily ministration (serving of food) to some neglected widows and the early Christians. (Acts 6:1,2,5) While carrying out this duty, he continued preaching of the gospel of Christ with much wisdom and spirit that the Jews could not contend with him. As a great historian, he fearlessly recounted God’s divine dealings with the Hebrews from the time of Abraham. As an apostle, he saw a vision of the glory of God and Jesus Christ standing on His right hand. (Acts 7:55,56) For this he was stoned to death and like Jesus Christ, he prayed thus: “Lord, lay not this sin to their charge”.(Acts 7:60) Christians should emulate these qualities of Stephen and learn to forgive always. – Matthew 5:38-43.
