Theme: MANAGING CHRONIC ILLNESSES

Text: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22,

Comment: Some people hold the view that it is wrong for a Christian to take medicine in any form. This view is not correct according to the Scriptures.  God made the herbs to meet the needs of men and so we can use them to advantage as food or medicine.  (Psalm 104:14; Ezekiel 47: 12; Matthew 9:12) We should always remember that without the help of God medications would be of no avail. We should avoid seeking help from false prophets and  mediums as they end up compounding our problems. (See 2 Kings 1:1-18; Isaiah 8:19; Deuteronomy 18:10-12) High cost of medicines for treatment of chronic illnesses is a problem for many. Those affected should continue to look to God and to seek help from godly people as well as from agencies that offer help in this regard. It is well known that help comes in extreme situations from where one does not even expect. The solution to one’s problems may even be easier than one thought. When Hezekiah was sick unto death, God told him to take a lump of figs and lay it on the boil. They did this and  he recovered. (2 Kings 20:7) Indeed, God Almighty  will “with the temptation also make a way to escape”, that we may be able to bear it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13.
