Theme: PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Text: “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2.

Comment: A steward is one who is given charge of the affairs of a family or household.  A lot of trust is therefore reposed in him. Only servants who have proved themselves prudent, honest and trustworthy  over time are given the position of stewards. To one who is faithful, the position is a stepping stone to a higher social status. But it is also an office which creates room for dishonesty, waste and embezzlement. We should avoid seeking wealth through dubious means so that we do not have to be struggling to save face in the end. We could recall that Gehazi, the servant of Elisha lied to his master in respect of the gifts he collected from Naaman under false pretext, he inherited the leprosy of Naaman. “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” -Proverbs  28:20.
In the time of Nehemiah, “he gave his brother Hanani, the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: “for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many”. (Nehemiah 7:2) While Daniel was serving as President in the Medo-Persian empire, “the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him”. (Daniel 6:4) Of a truth righteousness delivers one from death. – Proverbs11:4.
