Text: “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.” – Proverbs 15:27.
Comment: Insatiability is a vice. Discontentment has lead many people to defraud their brothers and sisters. Some who sell in the market, use wrong measures to sell to unsuspecting customers. Others use fake currencies to buy goods and services. Some sell expired goods and products. Fuel attendants at petrol stations, use wrong meters and fuel pumps, all to make quick gain and illicit profits at the detriment of their fellow men. This is not good and it is a sin. The case of Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli the High Priest is a striking instance. Because of greed, they persistently continued to abuse their sacred offices and brought disgrace and ruin to the family name. (1 Samuel 2:12-36; 3:11-14). But those who are sincere and satisfied with the little they have, will continue to enjoy God’s blessings by His grace and power. See Psalm 37:16; Proverbs 15:16; 16:8; etc.
