Text: “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart” – Psalm 40:8.
Comment: The word of God which contains the laws of God are preached to man to guide him for his benefit. In Romans 10:14,15, it is written: “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” Whoever has had this grace of hearing the word of God, needs to give time out for meditation on the word of God. When His word is in our heart, we are able to call to remembrance and guide ourselves by it. About the righteous man king David said: “The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide” (Psalm 37:31). The word of God also gives a worshipper consolation in times of tribulation for we are told in Psalm 119:92: “Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.” We are guided by the word of God which is a light unto our feet. King David declared once again: “Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.” – Psalm 119:24.
