Theme: BIBLE PERSPECTIVES ON LEADERSHIP

Text: “He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.” – Proverbs 14:17.

Comment: One who is easily provoked or who gets angry beyond measure even for justifiable reasons could come under the influence of Satan the devil to deal “foolishly” as it is in the text for today. Such may be pushed to commit certain blunders he will regret when he is sober.  The Bible says: “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” (Proverbs 25:28)  In all, self-control is a necessary condition for leadership.  In Proverbs 16:32, it is written: “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”  A major duty of leaders is the taking of decision in the interest and on behalf of the people.  This must not be done when one is filled with anger.  For this reason, it is largely imperative as St. James enjoined, for leaders to be “…slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” – James 1:19, 20.
