Theme: ANGER: ITS CAUSES, EFFECTS, CONSEQUENCES AND MANAGEMENT
Text: “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.” – Ecclesiastes 7:9.
Comment: ‘Anger’ is a very strong feeling that can prompt one to take ‘extreme’ steps in an attempt to get redress. It needs be kept within safe limits to avoid regrets. Scripture advises, “Be ye angry and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26, 27). Psychologists say, ‘Control Anger Before It Controls You’. As a strategy, 1. Think before you speak 2. Once you are calm, express your concerns, 3. Get some exercise, 4. Take a time out, 5. Identify possible solutions, 6. Stick with ‘I’ statements, 7. Don’t hold a grudge 8. Use humor to release tension, 9. Practice relaxation skills, 10. Know when to seek help – anger issues can be challenging sometimes, seek help if it seems out of control and causes you to do things you regret or hurts those around you. Saint James admonishes, “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God” – James 1:19, 20.
