Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY

Text: “When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me… For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.” – Matthew 26:10-13.

Comment: The Holy Scriptures pay tributes to the memory of a catalogue of ancient worthies who did great works by faith. (Hebrews 11:4-40) Examples are Abel (Genesis 4:2-5); the Hebrew midwives – Shiphrah and Puah in Egypt (Exodus 1:15-21); Phinehas (Numbers 25:1-15); Joseph of Arimathea, and Nicodemus (John 19:38-42); and the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:9-16). Conversely, Jezebel (1 Kings 18:4, 13, 19; 21:5-25; 2 Kings 9:7-37; etc.), Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11), Judas Iscariot (Matthew 26:14-16); and Lucifer, the Dragon, Devil, Satan and Serpent (Revelations 12:9), all recorded with ignominy for their evil deeds. All their names were overshadowed by their deeds, either goodness with blessed rewards and good memories, or evil with sad consequences and accursed memories. King Jehoiakim of Judah was extremely greedy, covetous, oppressive, and violent shedding innocent blood. He died an ignominious death and earned a bad name for himself at the end. – Jeremiah 22: 17-19; Ecclesiastes 6:3-6; 7:1, 2.
