Theme: IS IT VAIN TO SERVE GOD?

Text: “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” – James 4:14, 15.

Comment: Often times we set targets, make projections into the future and map out plans for our lives. It is not wrong to do so. King Solomon in one of his Proverbs did commend the ant because of this quality of planning ahead. (Proverbs 6:6-8) We should bear in mind however that irrespective of our plans, it is the counsel of the Lord that shall hold sway eventually. (Proverbs 19:21) In our plans of life, it is imperative to toe the precedent set by our Lord and Saviour in subjecting them to God’s will. (Matthew 26:39, 42) This way, whatever the outcome, we are rest assured that God is either delaying it or does not approve of it because He has a greater plan that would be to our best interest by His grace. – Proverbs 13:12; Romans 8:28.
