Theme: The Love of Money

Text: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” – Philippians 4:11.

Comment: St. Paul, by words and deeds, showed us the right path. He recommended temperance as a recipe for living a contented life, when he wrote, “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things… But I keep under my body, and bring it unto subjection.” (2 Corinthians 9:25, 27) This approach of self-discipline was also adopted by Nehemiah the governor (Nehemiah 5:14, 15) for which he had an outstanding reign. One who has mastered the art of bridling his desires would not be carried away with the world and what it has to offer because they are not of the Father. (1 John 2:15-17) In the absence of self-control, one would be exposed to many foolish and hurtful lusts in his quest to get rich at all costs which we do not pray for. – 1 Timothy 6:9.
