Text: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” – Matthew 6:25.
Comment: Our Lord Jesus Christ highlighted the basic needs – food, clothing, shelter – which preoccupy the minds of men so much that they are distracted from the service of God. While some people complain of the difficulties they have in their efforts to get certain things they desire, they lose sight of the many things God has done or is doing for them. The most important gift is that of life itself without which any talk of material things would be meaningless. How grateful are we for God’s goodness each day? While we go about striving to meet our basic needs, we should know that God allows us to lack certain things so as to teach us to identify the priorities in life, for us to learn to be patient, to build our faith and to increase our understanding of His ways. Since the earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof, He could give us all things in abundance if He wishes. After all, the birds neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns; yet God provides for them. Even King Solomon was not better arrayed than the lilies in the field. What we should always remember is “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:25 – 34.
