Theme: MEEKNESS IN GOD’S SERVICE
Text: “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. “ – James 1:21.
Comment: The word of God which we are privileged to know in truth is meant to cleanse us. (Psalm 119:9,11) It is for our guidance. (Psalm 119;105) And is written to help our faith. – Romans 10:17.
We should open our hearts to accept the word of God. The word of God fails to bear fruit in some people because they want to give vent to their fleshly lusts, pride as shown in disregard for the source of the word at certain points in time (e.g. children despising godly counsel from parents, husbands refusing godly advice from wives, wives haughtily rejecting godly directives from husbands, and so on). This works to the detriment of the individual spiritually. King David prayed “Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” Psalm 51:9-12.
We should pray God to open our hearts by giving us His holy spirit so as to allow ourselves to be directed towards godliness, as happened to Lydia. “And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.” – Acts 16:14
