Text: “He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.” – Proverbs 11:28.
Comment: During his days on earth, our Lord Jesus Christ was approached by a man with the question, “Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” So definite and unambiguous was our Lord’s answer, when he told him to observe the commandments of God which were well known to him. The man proceeded to ask yet another, “All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?” To this, the greatest Teacher of all times gave the following recommendation: “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” On hearing this, “he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.” (Matthew 19:16-26; Mark 10:17-27) It should be borne in mind that, Jesus Christ never implied that no rich person will gain everlasting life, but that they should not set their heart on their wealth, lest it becomes a stumbling block for them. – 1 Timothy 6:17-19.
