Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD
Text: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:25
Comment: St. Paul here lays it down as a rule that we, as true Christians, should not keep away or absent ourselves from any opportunity to gather to hear the word of God. This gives honour to God Who had created man to show forth His praise. “In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.” (Proverbs 14:28) King David in one of his psalms stated, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:4, 5) It should be pointed out however that blessing will attend such gatherings if they are held under the auspices of God’s Organization where the truth is preached. “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth”, said David the prophet of God in Psalm 145:18; See also Matthew 18:20. The worshipper must hallow the place of worship and comport himself in a sober manner. He must be attentive to what is being said and not allow himself to be distracted in any way. (Revelation 1:3) “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God” exhorted Solomon the prophet “and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.” – Ecclesiastes 5:1
