Text: “Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.” – Job 36:9, 10.
Comment: God’s word contains Instructions for the guidance of believers, and Judgment for their chastisement and reformation. True, “no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” (Hebrews 12:11) Aside instances of Satan’s oppression, there are situations where deviation from the precepts of God put us through self-inflicted inconveniences. (Lamentations 3:39, 40) Worth commending, is the sincerity of the Psalmist who stated: “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.” (Psalm 119:67) In addition to illuminating our steps, uncompromising adherence to God’s testimonies brings prosperity. – Psalm 1:1-3; Joshua 1:8.
