Text: “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life”- Proverbs 22:4.
Comment: One must submit to the will of God and have His fear, which enables one to run away from evil. When there is the fear God in a man’s heart, it enables him to depart from evil. Scriptures say: “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6) Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign in Judah, and he reigned for fifty two years in Jerusalem. He followed the steps of his father Amaziah, who in his earlier years was doing those thing that were right in the sight of the LORD. “And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.” (2 Chronicles 26:5) Let us seek the face of God; practising His righteousness for our good, now that we have our being.
David the sweet psalmist of old, who tasted richly of God’s goodness declared “Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.” (Psalm 112:1-3) May God help us to cultivate the spirit of humility and godly fear.
