Text: “Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven.” – Proverbs 23:5.
Comment: There are persons who believe so much or trust in their riches or wealth to the extent that they do not see the need to acknowledge God in their lives because they feel that their wealth can provide for all they desire. Speaking on the character of such persons, Job the prophet said: “They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?” (Job 21:13-15) What such persons do not know is that wealth or riches are transient, that is, may not last forever as attested to in the text for today. The Bible warned true worshippers against trusting in riches, rather they should hope and trust in God Who alone gives durable riches. – 1 Timothy 6:17.
