Theme: BE YE ALL OF ONE MIND

Text: “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another”. – Roman 14:19.

Comment: There are those who are weak and those who are strong in faith in God’s Organisation.  St Paul recognized this hence his exhortation in earlier verses of this chapter from where today’s text is drawn, to the effect that we should not put stumbling blocks to the faith of the weak ones among us (Romans 14:1-3, 13-15) Many loudly say they are working for peace without exhibiting the characters that can attract peace; which are humility, meekness, selflessness and charity. How can we do the things that can edify one another when there is malice, rancour, quarrelling, confusion and strife among us?

If we target these great matters of our Christian lives, we will live in peace. We should do things that unite us such as the pursuit of peace, aspiring for righteousness and building of New Jerusalem in order that the gospel of Christ will reach the sheep of God yet to receive the truth.

Many have because of meat and drink, destroyed the potential in them to be an example to others and win souls to God.  This may not be the literal “meat and drink” but unwholesome attitude of pleasing the flesh. Remember “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth” – 1 Corinthians 10: 23, 24.
