Theme: BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL

Text: “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him…” – 2 Chronicles 16:9.

Comment: God Almighty takes no pleasure in faithlessness. Under divine inspiration, Paul the apostle exhorts Christians: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” (Ephesian 6:10) Because of faithlessness, we easily lose sight of God’s blessings, protection, and deliverance given us in the past, when we are suddenly faced with circumstances which may sometimes not even be compared with previous cases. Asa, king of Judah, was guilty of this, when Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah. Instead of seeking help from the Almighty Father, he sought help from Benhadad, king of Syria, for which he was upbraided by Hanani, as conveyed in today’s devotional. We should, at all times, allow reflections of God’s goodness in the past, be our source of strength, hence king David declared: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits”. – Psalm 103:2; 40:5; 139:17, 18.
