Theme: THE SAVING AND HEALING POWER OF GOD ALMIGHTY

Text: “And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is “no god in all the earth, but in Israel; now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant” – 2 Kings 5:15

Comment: Naaman, was a mighty man of valour in the army of Syria such that he was made captain of the host. Though he had won several wars for the Syrians, he was not able to defeat the disease of leprosy for which reason he felt greatly diminished before people. It was to the God of Israel he resorted through Elijah the prophet. What the prophet did was unlike what he had ever seen in the past: that he should dip himself seven times in the River Jordan and that he would be cured. This was a test of his humility and obedience. In anger, he was already on his way home when one of his servants enjoined him to give the unusual therapy a try. To his credit, he took the advice and “his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean”.

God Almighty does not limit his care on the natural Jews alone as He is Lord of all creation. It was clear to Naaman that his healing was a big miracle from God through the word of His prophet, Elisha. Hence, he made the declaration in the text for today. Truly, the God of Israel is the God of gods and the Lord of lords. (Deuteronomy 10:17) He washed and was clean, as we are being washed by the word of God through our Saviour, by whose stripe we are healed. – John 17:17; 1 Peter 2:24.
