Theme: THE SAVING AND HEALING POWER OF GOD ALMIGHTY

Text: “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.” – 2 Chronicles 16:9.

Comment: There is another instance when God Almighty manifested His power. That was when Zerah the Ethiopian came against Judah with an army of about a million men, besides 300 chariots. At that time, King Asa prayed to God saying: “LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.” (2 Chronicles 14:11) God fought for the people of Judah and their enemies were defeated. Surprisingly, however, when Baasha King of Israel, with far fewer soldiers and therefore much less of a threat than the Ethiopians came against him, Asa did not turn to God for help but to the Syrians. Despite the stern rebuke of Hanani the Seer, he did not budge. Within three years, he “was diseased in his feet, until his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians” until he died in the 41st year of his reign. This shows that it is in God we should trust to give us cure, using the physicians and medical intervention is of no avail, when the cause is spiritual. – 2 Chronicles 16:12-14.
