“If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door”. – Genesis 4:7
Those were the words of God to Cain. Cain was very wroth because God rejected his offering. Instead of him to be sober and make effort to correct his wrong doing by making a better offering to God, he rose up against his brother Abel and slew him, and when God inquired of him about his brother he answered “ Am I my brother's keeper?” This is a product of envy. We should not envy one another, if your brother is progressing, thank God for him and pray God to help you be like him. You can also approach him to tell you the secret of his success, by so doing, God helping you; you too can be as successful. We should also bear in mind that, all are not equally gifted.
As our faces are different, so too our various gift and talents differ. Whichever gift God has blessed us with, we should make the most of it to His glory and not to look down on ourselves or to envy our neighbour. We should be charitable, charity does not envy and it is kind (1Corinthians 13:4) Apostle Peter also advised that we should lay aside malice, guile, hypocrisies, envies etc as new-born babes. – 1 Peter 2:1, 2.
