Text: “But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die” - - Deuteronomy 22:25.
Comment: In the Wikipedia.org, RAPE is described as a type of assault involving sexual behaviour “without that person's consent”. On 1st October, 2014, The Nation newspapers reported that “51minors were sexually abused or raped in Enugu State, (Nigeria) between April and August”, while on the 14th of December 2014, Gist-Pulse, an online publication reported that “a total of 162 rape cases were recorded in Lagos State”.
The law of God provides that if a man rapes a betrothed damsel in the field, “then the man only that lay with her shall die”. (Deuteronomy 22:25) In 2 Samuel 13:1-32, there is the account of the lust which Amnon had for his half-sister Tamar which led to his forcefully having carnal knowledge of her. Strangely enough Amnon hated her exceedingly after he had dealt with her so violently and uncaringly. (2 Samuel 13:11-15) Indeed statistics have shown that many rape cases are not by strangers but by acquaintances or even well known people. Those who commit the horrible sin of rape stand condemned in God's judgement except they repent thoroughly from their sins. (2 Corinthians 5:10) Parents should keep a close watch on their young children, and teach them not to be with or follow boys or men to compromising environments. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God...” - 1 Corinthians 15:33, 34.
