“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished”. - 2 Peter 2:9
The Lord's prayer continues with the words: “And lead us not into temptation…” From Bible understanding, God does not lead people into temptation. God tries or tests His people, but He does not tempt them. (James 1:13-15; Genesis 22:1 Hebrews 11:17) It is the devil who tempts people and so is known as “the tempter”. (Matthew 4:1, 3) When such temptations occur, we are not to lose our bearing by doubting the power of God, seeking help from the devil or talking irreverently but to seek the face of God in prayer while continuing to trust in him and to do His will. He will surely help us out in the way we never expected. Apostle Paul in his letter to the Christians at Corinth attests to this: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” - 1 Corinthians 10:13.
