“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” - Psalm 34:17-19
Next in the Lord 's Prayer is a request for God to deliver us from evil. The world is full of evils, troubles or perils. David said he was shaped and given birth to in the throes of iniquity. While Job declared: “…man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. (Job 5:6,7) People have gone to indescribable lengths to free themselves from trouble. But in their quest to escape poverty, disease, death, etc. they have ended up putting themselves in greater bondage. It was for the purpose of saving mankind from these troubles that Jesus Christ came, suffered, died and was raised by the Father. Apostle Paul said Jesus Christ “gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father”. (Galatians 1:4. See also 1 John 3:8) We shall always enjoy the protection and deliverance of God Almighty if we continue to exercise faith in Him. See John 10:27-29; 1 Peter 3:10-13.
