“When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 8:10,11.
Our Lord Jesus Christ made this statement when he saw the faith of the Centurion, the Roman Officer in control of 100 soldiers. It happened that his servant was sick and was under grievious torment. Because the Centurion had faith in him, Jesus Christ promised to go to his place and heal his servant. But the Centurion would not have Jesus come to his house. He said: “….I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed”. (Matthew 8:8) For this show of faith, Christ said: “…I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” (Matthew 8:10). The point is that though the Centurion was not a Jew yet he showed greater faith than many of the Jews of his time. Then Christ told him: “… Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.” (Matthew 8:13). This example of faith, Jesus Christ commended to believers, teaching us that when we believe in God He will do things for us which are humanly impossible. It also teaches a lesson that those in leadership positions should not neglect or fail to attend to the needs of those under them but should treat them as they would like to be treated. Job 31:13-15.
