“FREEDOM DAY” – CHRIST’S BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
Some people do join issues with the GKS for observing the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, contending that he never asked anybody to celebrate his birth. This argument may look plausible on the surface, but viewed from the perspective of the Holy Scriptures, it is erroneous. The Holy Bible gives worshippers of God the latitude to do whatever will promote His name and word among men, by His grace. St. Paul wrote: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8) The fact that angels celebrated the birth of Christ is an example for worshippers of God to follow. - Luke 2:8-14.
Jesus Christ is the only man who was born perfect and who died perfect. After the fall of Adam, there was no man who could pay back the life lost at the Garden of Eden except Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 19:21; Romans 5:12-19; 1 Timothy 2:5,6) The birth anniversary of Christ affords us the opportunity to honour God Almighty and Jesus Christ for saving mankind from sin and death and to proclaim to the world the moral and spiritual imperatives of focusing on the truth and its implications and awaking to righteousness by the grace of God. In Revelation 14:6,7, it is written: “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” - Revelation 14:6, 7.
In appreciation of the goodness of God in sending Jesus Christ to die for the sins of mankind, members and friends of God’s Kingdom Society (GKS) - the Church of the Living God, would be holding Freedom Day Divine Services in all the Sundays in October, at various centres in Nigeria as well as in the United Kingdom, Ghana, Liberia, Canada and the United States of America. Ministers of the Church will be officiating at the various centres by the grace of God. Opportunity will be given to inquirers to ask questions. Apart from the sermon “Was Christ born on Christmas Day?” the address of the President of GKS, Brother G. O. Ifeacho entitled “Why is there no peace in the world in spite of the efforts of religious and political leaders?" will be read to the celebrants.
Christ was born in October
Jesus Christ was born in the seventh month of the Jewish year, called Ethanim or Tishri which corresponds to our October. The facts are there in the Holy Bible. Zacharias the priest officiated in the “eight course”, the course of Abijah (or Abia in Greek), which falls in the fourth month of the Jewish year, called Tammuz and which corresponds to our latter June to early July. (1 Chronicles 24:7-10; Luke 1:5) It was while Zacharias was officiating in the temple that Angel Gabriel appeared to him with the news that his wife Elizabeth will conceive and bear a son to be called John. It was when he finished his officiation in early July and returned to his house, that his wife conceived for which she hid herself five months, that is, from July to November. - Luke 1: 5, 23, 24.
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s conception, (our December) the same Angel Gabriel was sent to Mary to inform her that she would bear a son to be called Jesus. (Luke 1:26,27,30,31) On hearing the gladsome news of Elizabeth's conception, Mary went to stay with her for three months, January to March, by which time Elizabeth's pregnancy was nine months old., before she returned to her own house. The next month, the tenth month, April, was Elizabeth’s “full time that she should be delivered” and she brought forth a son whom the father, Zacharias, named John, according to the words of the Angel. - Luke 1:59-63.
Since we know that John the Baptist was born in April and that he was six months older than Jesus Christ, it follows that Christ was born six months later, in October. Moreover, since Christ was conceived in January as confirmed by Elizabeth's declaration, (Luke 1:39-44), his birth doubtless took place in the tenth month, which is October. - John 8:31,32; 2 Corinthians 2:17; 2 Corinthians 13:8.
We invite all people of goodwill to join us in the Freedom Day Divine Services at the centres nearest to them for their own blessings and salvation.
