WHO IS GOD?

The word god is derived from the Hebrew word elohim, which means a mighty or powerful one. But the Almighty God, being greater than all, is known as the “God of gods and Lord of lords”. – Deuteronomy 10: 17. See also Psalm 95: 3;1 Corinthians 8: 5,6.

·         The exclusive name which God Almighty gave to Himself is JEHOVAH, in Hebrew, which means self-existing One or One Who lives of Himself. In both the heavens and the earth He is the Only One Who is uncreated. He lives from everlasting to everlasting. (Exodus 6: 3;Psalm 83: 16, 18) He is also known as I AM, JEA.LOUS, MOST HIGH, JAH, ANCIENT OF DAYS, etc. – Exodus 3: 14; 34: 14; Numbers 24: 16; Psalm 68: 4; Daniel 7: 13; Psalm 90: 2.

·         The beginning of the creation of God was the LOGOS (Greek) or WORD (English). Through Him God created the heavens and the earth and all perfect things therein. He later came to this earth, as Jesus Christ, to redeem man from sin and death. – Proverbs 8: 22-30;  John 1: 1-3, 10, 14; Ephesians 3: 9; Revelation 3: 14.

That God Almighty created man in His own image shows that He has the form or shape of a person. The word image, (Genesis 1: 26, 27), means the resemblance or imitation of the external form of an object.  He is however a spirit person of the highest order. (Hebrews 12:9;1 Corinthians 15: 44,49, 50; Psalm 94; 8-11; John 5: 37) Prophets of God such as Moses Ezekiel, Daniel, Micaiah and apostle Stephen saw Him in vision and described Him as a person. – Ezekiel 1:26-28; Daniel 7:9. 13, 14; 2 Chronicles 18: 18; Acts 7: 55, 56.

Jehovah has four infinite attributes, which are, wisdom, power, justice and love. These are His likeness in man, though those of man have been corrupted by Satan the devil. With His wisdom and power God created the heavens and the earth and other good things in them. (Jeremiah 10: 12; Psalm 104: 24; Proverb 3: 19) With power alone he destroyed the first world with water saving Noah and His family of seven. (Genesis 7: 1-24; 2 Peter 2: 5) He will demonstrate His power in a greater measure at the Battle of the Great Day in this last day when He will destroy Satan and all his followers. (Isaiah. 26: 21; Zephaniah 1: 14-18; Romans 16: 20; Revelation 20: 1-3) Justice was manifested when God sentenced Adam to death for violating His perfect law in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 2: 17; 3: 9-12, 19; Romans 6: 23; Psalm 89: 14) Jehovah showed His love by sending Jesus Christ to this earth in order to redeem mankind from sin and death. – John 3: 16; Romans 5: 8; 1 John 3:16; 4:9; 5:11.

The Almighty God dwells in the heaven of heavens from where He knows and sees everything in the whole universe at all times. – Psalm 11: 4; 48:2; Isaiah. 66: 1, 2; Matthew 5: 34, 35.

It is very important that we have the true knowledge of God and trust in Him at all times in order to attain salvation by His grace. – John 4: 22; 1 Corinthians 15: 34; John 17:3; Jeremiah 9:23, 24; Isaiah. 26: 3, 4.
