Theme: WHY DO THE WICKED PROSPER AND LIVE LONG?

Text: “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds”. – Romans 2:4-6.

Comment: Today’s text clearly indicates that God Almighty is good to His children irrespective of their way of life and character. (Matthew 5:43-48) Mankind, who enjoys the goodness of God is expected to refrain from a life of sin so as to appreciate God’s mercies and grace. (Micah 6:6-8) However, when a wicked person, in spite of these admonitions and warnings from God Almighty proves obstinate, and does not repent, they will be judged and punished according to their sins. (Proverbs 9:12) The Prophet Isaiah exhorts: “Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do well… If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” – Isaiah 1:16-20.
