Theme: IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD
Text: “What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.” – Psalm 116:12-14, 17.
Comment: It is common for people, who by way of celebrating God’s goodness, throw lavish ceremonies/receptions for friends and acquaintances. While not condemning this in its entirety, emphasis should instead be placed on giving to the Most High, our first and the best, and not our last and the least, that is to say, it should always be God first! What then does God require of us? It is a token of appreciation as nothing can rightly be commensurate with His providence on us. To “take the cup of salvation” is in reference to the practice of His righteousness in running the race of life. The most profound way of acknowledging God’s goodness therefore is to “do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” – Micah 6:8.
