Text: “I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause: Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number”. – Job 5:8, 9.
Comment: As it is in time of old, so it is in all ages, with regards to God’s ordinances that abhor worship of idols. Among other reasons, the foolishness in mixed worship lies in the fact that it is an act of ingratitude to the Maker of man, Giver and Sustainer of every good gift. This gives us a better appreciation of Moses’ anger on seeing his fellow compatriots fully engrossed in the worship of the golden calf, upon his descent from Mount Sinai. In his justified indignation, he gave the invitation: “Who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come unto me.” (Exodus 32:1-28) Elaborating on the blessedness in remaining in God’s “secret place”, the Psalmist speaks of protection from our adversaries, diseases, destruction, exaltation at the instance of God Almighty, His presence when we call on Him, and chiefly, “with long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation”. – Psalm 91:1-16.
