Theme: LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO?
Text: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” – John 10:27-29.
Comment: For the Christian convert, it is “Forward ever, and backward never”, if we must make it to the finish line, especially now that our salvation is nearer than when we believed. (Romans 13:11-14) God has promised to protect and keep those who trust in Him as long as they obey and follow His laws. Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ decried the fate of those who, having come to Christ, then entangled themselves with acts of unrighteousness and deliberately opposed the work of God. (2 Peter 2:20-22; Hebrews 6:4-6) While the fate that befell Lot’s wife, (Genesis 19:26; Luke 17:32) and Hymenaeus and Alexander (1 Timothy 1:20) who made a shipwreck of their faith, at the instance of their backsliding, is not a good record worthy of emulation. Instead, it is the noble disposition of Ruth, who was “steadfastly minded” to stick with her mother-in-law, not minding the circumstance, that we should emulate. – Ruth 1:18; Hebrews 10:35-39.
