Theme: THE WILL OF GOD

Text: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” – 1 John 5:14.

Comment: There is no doubt that God answers prayers. Instances are so much in the Bible and those who actually pray also testify to this. “Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed. O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.” (Psalm 65;1,2). King David also said in Pslam 57:7,2: “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.” It is revealed to us therefore, that our prayers may not be answered if it is not asked according to His will. We cannot pray to God to assist us in achieving an evil intentions and expect God to hear us. We cannot expect  prayers with high-mindedness  to be answered. We should not expect our prayers for the downfall of others to be acknowledged by God. Even our requests for things in this world are subject to the approval of God according to His divine purpose concerning us. Christ made this abundantly clear by example. Moments before his arrests and eventual crucifixion, the bible accounts thus, “He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done” (Matthew 26:42). “Thy will be done O Jehovah” is a statement of faith and submission to the will of God.
