Text: “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” – Proverbs 22:1.
Comment: In the text for today, King Solomon admonished Christians on the importance of living a godly life in Christ Jesus. This is far better than riches and wealth. A man who has integrity is contented with whatsoever he has. Such ones will not take bribe, will not involve himself in fraudulent practices and by his conduct may win people into the Christian faith. True worshippers of God should endeavour to have a “good name” by their conduct, behaviour, whatsoever they say and do whether there are persons around watching or not. Riches or wealth are transient, they don’t last, but those who live a godly life and endeavour to practice God’s righteousness will be blessed manifoldly in this world and in the world to come life everlasting. “Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.” – Proverbs 11:4. See also Ecclesiastes 7:1.
