Text: “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” – Ecclesiastes 11:9.
Comment: Life without God, our Creator, is vain or futile. Take example of Thomas Wolsey, the English cardinal, for him, wealth and power came before all spiritual considerations. But towards the end of his life, he said in utter agony, “Would that I had served my God as faithfully as I have served my King! He would not have forsaken me in my old age.” The lessons we learn from today’s text is that a life dedicated to carnal or material objectives ends in misery and vanity. King Solomon, the wisest in his days, exhorts; “Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.”- Ecclesiastes 11:10
