Theme: THE PENNY REWARD

Text: “And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.” – Matthew 20:9.

Comment: The first set of labourers, including those called at the third, sixth, ninth and eleventh hour, were all promised a penny. Thus, the “penny”, which is the day’s wage for each worker, stands for everlasting life or salvation which God has promised the faithful in His everlasting Kingdom when it is fully established by His grace. (1 John 2:25) Apostle Jude called it the “common salvation”. (Jude 3) Hence, St Paul spoke of the “hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began”. (Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18) As the householder entered into a contract with the workers and fulfilled his promise to them, so God Almighty will give eternal life to all His faithful worshippers regardless of age, gender, position or status, no matter how long they served, whether it is for the duration of their lives or shortly before God destroys the world. He will keep His promise to His children in due course by His grace. – Galatians 3:28.
