Theme: RECEIVING THE KINGDOM OF GOD AS A LITTLE CHILD

Text: “And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.” – 1 Samuel 3:1, 19.

Comment: There are instances where children have a good start, continue therein and finish on a sound note, by God’s grace. Two ready instances are those of the young Prophet Samuel and Timothy, a Minister during the days of St. Paul. In both, the attributes of being open-minded and zealous were utilized by their parents and guardians in bringing them up in God’s nurture and admonition, and because they never departed, they both had successful careers as servants of God. Samuel at a tender age exhibited willingness to serve when he ran up to Eli his master, thrice, insisting that he had called him, until he was tutored on what to do when next he heard the call. The penultimate verse of 1st Samuel chapter 3 attests to the fact that, from that tender age, the Israelites “knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.” – 1 Samuel 3:20.  See also 1 Samuel 12:1-5; 2 Timothy 3:15.
